Licence renewed.

Of the 260 who protested, only 103 were from Worcester. I've always felt that comments should only be accepted from people who are directly affected by the existence of a strip venue.

From the above Worcester Observer article:

"A total of 11 letters of objection were also submitted to the city council, with some residents claiming the venue would make many women feel 'unsafe' and 'objectified', while others felt it was too close to the St Martin’s Quarter."

So, some objectors recycled the usual Object Now cliches, whilst others played the 'inappropriate for the area' card. Same old same old...

"However, Heath Thomas, who was representing owner Ashvin Patel, said they were just 'perceived concerns' while he believed an online petition did not carry much weight as only 103 of the 260 people who signed it were from Worcester."

Solicitors acting for venues are far better briefed than they once were, and have academic studies to draw upon which weren't available back in 2009.

"West Mercia Police also failed to lodge any objections to the application"

Standard.

“I believe residents will be deterred from staying long term and the population would become temporary if the presence of Black Cherry creates the impression of a red light district and bring furthers incidents of disturbance.”

So thats basically 2 ifs.

Presumably, even if neither happens this guy will be OK about it.

Or perhaps not.

A quote from David Barrett, owner of Black Cherry, from the December 2018 Worcester News article:

"Despite the intelligence that was acted upon being at best faulty and at worst malicious we welcome any investigation into the running of the club by the relevant authorities at any time.

"No slaves or other irregularities were found at any of the addresses searched and the club reopened the next night.

"The club remains committed to the objectives of the licensing laws and is the most regulated premises in Worcester, with a variety of conditions imposed on the licence to safeguard both customers and staff.

"The night-time economy of Worcester as a whole has been under the spotlight of late, with other venues being scrutinised.

"But Black Cherry remains a welcoming and safe venue for all and looks forward to continuing our service and providing entertainment now and into the coming year.

"I must stress that I appreciate the seriousness of the allegations, which turned out to be unfounded.

"Clearly the authorities have to act and investigate, but it would be nice to have an acknowledgement that the information acted on was incorrect and that the club continues to be a safe venue for staff and customers."

Of course, the 'antis' would never tell porkie pies or invent tall tales, would they?

Worcester strip club fined £30k over two year unpaid tax bill (BBC News website, 05/10/21)

"Black Cherry Gentlemen's Club in Worcester has been named by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for owing almost £65,000 in tax.

"A strip club has been fined nearly £30,000 over its two year unpaid tax bill.

"The venue has been ordered to pay just over £29,500 for its unpaid tax bills between August 2017 and November 2019.

"The Local Democracy Reporting Service said owner David Barrett was trying to dissolve the company.

"According to Companies House documents, Mr Barrett made a further attempt in June after first trying in February 2019.

"Companies House also said the city centre strip club's accounts for the past financial year were also overdue.

"Mr Barrett's application to dissolve in June was again rejected because of the unpaid tax bill."
