This week BBC3 has shown three times a documentary, "Amy, My Body for Bucks", about a rather sweet young mother studying for a degree trying to make ends meet by dancing at Legs Eleven. Early on she says that there she was earning in one night what she would earn one week in a supermarket; but then she appears to have had several nights when she cleared £15 after paying the house fee of £85 a night and taxi fares.

Amy said she charged £15 for a private dance, but could charge more or less what she wanted for a VIP dance: £125 for 30 minutes, £250 for an hour. Pro rata, the VIP sessions seem expensive, but no idea was given about what they consisted of.

Amy seemed a bit too much of a man hater for my liking! I can say though that there's plenty of quality Midland lasses in here worth a dance with!

It appears from the website (which is good) that there are two Legs Elevens in Birmingham (= Legs Twenty-two?). The one in Gas Street has been given a new licence despite a few protests about women-smokers in lingerie - but the local Residents Association reports no problems!

A lap-dancing club run by women for women is to open in Birmingham:

Wonder what the feminists will make of that; after all, someone must be being exploited, mustn't they? And no nasty men to blame...

But "no men will be allowed on the night, so all the staff will be female". Isn't that discrimination, which seems to be one of the considerations that councils considering SEV licences include in their guff?

I think this venture should be congratulated and I hope is successful.

If women feel they need a woman only space to be comfortable with and explore what is so great about this industry/pastime then so be it. As the article points out there are taste differences between men and women who are interested in women, that effectively creates a different marketplace.

Its existence exposes the hypocrisy and lies of the anti's argument. I hope they set up venues in Tower Hamlets, Leeds and Portsmouth. Venues in these boroughs would be very smart to incorporate some diverse entertainment options.

Like the White Horse's Life Drawing classes anything that expands the audience who appreciate the scene and offers a different type of strip experience should be wholeheartedly applauded.

Incidentally when in the States I have noticed a significant part of the audience in some clubs are groups of unaccompanied women, who are often more raucous and genorous round the stage than the often surly men.

It's only 1 night a month so far as I understand it. They did try a male strip bar for women called {wait for it !} Trcky Dicky's but it did not last long !

A pub in Islington used to run a lesbian night every Sunday.

It was very successful.

...But actually, they do. Plenty of the usual tripe about 'ob-jec-ti-fi-cat-ion' and 'hy-per-sex-u-al-i-ty' from the radfem robots.

Story from last November about immigration raids at Legs 11.

Amusing that all 3 were male.
Presumably they turned a blind eye to the masses of "trafficked women" who allegedly work in this type of club!

Promotional Youtube clip

Brute has rightly clarified my post with the addition of "Promotional" to my link. I did come across at least one similar clip on Youtube, for a London club, and there may be others. Neither venue looked my scene, in fact I've never been to a club, including a couple within four miles of me, and have no wish to.

According to the Birmingham Post, both Legs 11 establishments in Birmingham (Chinatown and Broad Street) have had their licences revoked, apparently after a police raid last month.

From the Birmingham Post article:

"No arrests were made and the West Bromwich-based Hope for Justice, which campaigns against modern slavery and took part in the raid, said no hard evidence of people trafficking was uncovered.

However a hastily convened licensing sub-committee on July 4 was shown CCTV footage and evidence from the raid and took the decision to suspend the licence."

Sounds like the possibility of trafficking is the least of their concerns...

No longer trading, no surprise

"Mr Neville said the next step was to see what criminal proceedings would follow and the council would also check other lap dancing clubs in the city were being run appropriately."

Legs 11 website seems to indicate that the Chinatown club is now trading under the name Smila's with entirely new management and staff.
