WF1 1XH Truth (was Brick Works), Wakefield

Post by The Great Smell Of Brute »

An application to open a new strip club above the Tequila nightclub in Wakefield's Westgate, and the usual nonsense about women feeling unsafe from local MP Mary Creagh:

Poles apart: Lap dancing bar to open - MP says it will be seedy- owner says they are part of night time economy (Hemsworth and South Elmshall Express, 07/11/15)

The club is now apparently called the Brick Works, and applied to have its SEV licence renewed recently:

Wakefield nightclub Brick Works wants lap dancing licence renewed (Wakefield Express, 12/11/18)

There's nothing published about this yet on Wakefield Council's website, so presumably the relevant Licensing Subcommittee meeting has yet to take place. It's also unclear from the venue's Facebook page whether stripping takes place regularly, or as part of one-off events.

Brickworks is the Night Club, PC Lounge is the associated SEV. No advertising no social media were conditions of the original license so easy to see why no one knows who what and why this club exists. One objection this year and that was about noise. Given Brickworks would make noise hard to see how the club was picked out.

The 2003 report mentioned in the article would be the notorious Lilith Project, which all but the most desperate antis have stopped citing.

Debunked here

It's always seemed to me particularly perverse that a rape committed in one part of Camden could be blamed on strip venues elsewhere in the borough unless the offender was a patron of them.

I have no issues with the ban on public promotion, though extending it to social media is a bit extreme. Elsewhere there have been some tacky "in-yer-face" publicity stunts. More sensible is a low-key presence.

Didn't Lilith say that areas with most strip clubs had most complaints about noise?
One of its more bizarre "findings".

Just like the Vanity Bar then. Onerous clauses, in my opinion...

The lack of social media is a real pain when your investigating clubs in an area you don't know.

Seeks new licence

The article harks back to the last renewal, when one neighbour complained about noise and an unsightly build-up of cardboard and glass outside.

Now called "Truth". (No doubt Brute will change the thread title?)

Seeks to renew licence

'Truth manager Kevin Spencer said: "Because of the restrictions I don't think we'll be able to open until next spring or summer now. We were originally hoping to open before Christmas again but I don't think that will happen now."'
