Re: ** EH3 9DP Western Bar, Edinburgh

Has anyone been here recently? I went in for a pint last August during the Fringe and found it very very quiet compared to previously. Just 3 dancers and 3 customers, so nothing going on. Dances had gone up to £10 (tbf the £5 couldn't go on for ever) but the dead atmosphere didn't make me want to st...

Re: ** HP11 2LR White Horse, High Wycombe

I'm surprised the girls were happy to have their photos published.

Good to see dancers at the pub on New Years Day!

I agree, I do expect too much! I guess the Axe's low beer prices we can't expect too much! :D

Re: ** EH3 9DP Western Bar, Edinburgh

Spent an evening here in August while in Edinburgh for the Fringe. Am pleased to say the pub is still the same, £5 PDs on Mon-Thurs (I think, possibly Sunday too) and friendly girls. If anything the standard of girls working here has improved, a few could easily be employed at Browns. A mix of local...

Re: ** SS1 2EN Foresters, Southend

The building doesn't look very well secured, looking at the photos on the local rag's website.

Surely the windows should be boarded up to prevent intruders breaking in.

Re: ** SS1 2EN Foresters, Southend

I was in there too for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon, my first visit for nearly 18 months. I'd not seen the pole in there before, didn't think it would work at first but gives a nice alternative to the walk about at times I agree with ruffieuk's views on the girls working, to be honest the...

Re: ** SS1 2EN Foresters, Southend

Sad, but it's done well to last this long. It's probably lasted 2/3 years longer than expected. The pub seemed to have been making money still as the developers had to threaten legal action to get the tenants to leave, according to the local rag. Must have been the rock and roll bands bringing in th...

Re: ** SS1 2EN Cornucopia Pub, Southend

I guess the Cornucopia isn't as busy as it used to be, so they can only attract the dancers they do nowadays. I think the younger dancers are more interested in the clubs, maybe that's where the money is?

Re: ** SS1 2EN Foresters, Southend

Sad to hear but it was only a matter of time I suppose. Given how quiet it is there nowadays, you would think it would be struggling to pay its bills anyway.

I often think, if anyone wanted to write about the rise and fall of the strip pub scene, the Foresters would make a perfect example.

Re: ** SS1 2EN Foresters, Southend

Reading the October article, the developer only said work would start 'early next year' which the newspaper took as being after Christmas. The continued vagueness of a start date does add to the theory that the developer is stalling works, with their real intention to sell the land. Anyone been to t...

Re: XX CLOSED SS1 1JE Royal Hotel, Southend

From memory, the 2012 strip sessions didn't last for very long. I think the Hotel closed down for a period too but now seems to be part of the 'regeneration' of Southend.

Re: ** EH3 9DP Western Bar, Edinburgh

I have just realised I didn't report back on my trip to the Western Bar in early August! Yes the bar hasn't changed a bit, still the same cheap PDs and friendly girls. You would never know the VIP area existed! I went along about 5 on a Monday afternoon and ended up only having one private dance in ...

I'm not surprised really, I've not been since January but attendance was pretty low in the preceding months and it seems that has continued.

Has anyone been recently? Be interested to hear any observations

Re: ** EH3 9DP Western Bar, Edinburgh

Interesting, a pity really as I recall some of the girls there have been quite happy to chat for the price of a drink or 2 (plus a dance but that's hardly a hardship!). Has that changed now? Have the prices for admission / PDs increased? I am in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks so may check the bar ou...

Re: ** SS1 2EN Foresters, Southend

Yes the immediate threat of redevelopment does seem to have been reduced. The council would, it seems, like to take over the site but don't have the money by the look of it. I think the biggest threat to the Foresters is the dwindling customer numbers. I don't go that often now myself but this year ...

I don't know specifically about this venue, though when I was in Edinburgh last month a dancer I was speaking to told me the authorities had tried in recent years to close down the strip venues (sounds familiar)

Re: ** SS1 2EN Cornucopia Pub, Southend

Good to hear there was a good crowd, I would suspect the dancers working that night brought a few followers with them.

The new regulations seem a bit over the top to me. Fair enough on the dressing room, though not sure why there is a need for 2 doormen in such a small pub!!

Re: ** EH3 9BX Burke and Hare, Edinburgh

Made my 2nd visit here last week, and again things haven't changed since I was last here a few years back. This is more a club than pub, opening at 7pm with a circular stage in the middle of the bar area and PDs upstairs in cubicles that remind me of shop changing rooms still. There was a blocked dr...

Re: ** EH3 9DP Western Bar, Edinburgh

During my trip to Edinburgh last week I set aside one evening for a visit to a couple of strip venues. The Western Bar hasn't changed since my last trip 2 years ago, charges are the same as my last review. Unlike the London venues, the girls don't tend to ask for dances, so you need to take the bull...
